The Central Treaty Organization (CENTO) was a Cold War-era military alliance between Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, the UK and, later, the US, which lasted from February 1955 to March 1979. It was headquartered in Baghdad from 1955 to 1958, and then in Ankara, Turkey.
