Ras Al Khaimah 1819-1820
120-page volume, compiled by Major Tim Ash MBE (ca.1934-2012), a formal Trucial Oman Scout, from photocopied documents 'supplied by the India Office Library and Records, Foreign and Commonwealth, London' at Ras al Khaimah, dated 24 January 1976 and labelled 'Copy 12 of 30 copies', providing a detailed account of British military activities at Ras al Khaimah between 1819 and 1820. The account is drawn entirely from extracts from official records of the British Government in India, detailing the military expedition to the Gulf aimed at ending the activities of the Quwassim naval forces who had been threatening British trade routes to India. After the British destroyed the Quwassim ships and established a garrison in the region, a series of peace treaties led to the Maritime Truce that provided the name of 'Trucial States' that lasted till 1971. The volume was prepared for the Ruler of Ras al Khaimah, Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed al Qasimi. A single photograph showing the hill fort at Dayah has been tipped in on page 2. -
